1889
W.J. Kennedy founded the company H.B. Feather Co. in Grand Rapids, Mich. His revolutionary “hot blast” of steam on crinkled feathers made the most comfortable feather mattress.

Our company’s name is changed to Grand Rapids Bedding Co., to adapt to the technology change and introduction of the innerspring mattress construction.

Spring Air Corporation was formed in Holland to create a national brand. Grand Rapids Bedding becomes an owner and its first licensee.
1972
MORE INNOVATIONS
Grand Rapids Bedding leads the way developing the Pillow-Top Mattress, replacing the prior innovative Cushion-Top Mattress.
1989
CHANGE OF LEADERSHIP
The K.R. Clapp family purchases Grand Rapids Bedding. Mr. Clapp, a U.S. Navy Vietnam and mattress industry veteran, tells the employees, “Just keep making the highest quality products.”
